Bio

Dr. C Andrew Basham, B.A., M.Sc., Ph.D.

My goal as an epidemiologist is to advance causal inference in the epidemiological research to enable individuals and communities to contribute to the design and interpretation of statistical analyses describing their lived experiences and influencing the policies, programs, and practices that impact their lives.

The skills and knowledge I bring to teaching are built on research integrity: relevance, rigour, reviewability, and reproducibility.

I am an epidemiologist specializing in causal inference based on observational data analyses. I have extensive data science experience using SAS and R to manage and analyze large relational healthcare databases in collaborative coding environments to produce decision-grade evidence. I educate trainees in epidemiology and biostatistics - grounded in the principles of open science - through practical research experience.

My research interests include critical illness survivorship, pharmacoepidemiology (drug safety and effectiveness), pharmacoequity, drug utilization, public health program performance measurement, infectious disease modelling, violence epidemiology, race and ethnicity data, and missing data generating mechanisms, their structures, patterns, associations, and implications for research, policy, and practice.

Sincerely,

C. Andrew Basham, PhD
